This summer, my daughter and I spent three weeks on a self-guided trip to Sydney, Australia, experiencing the warmth of the southern sun. Locals call Sydney the “Sun-Kissed City,” and it truly lived up to its name — almost every day was bright and clear. Even in their winter, the temperature was pleasantly mild, making every moment of sketching and painting an absolute joy. From the city’s charming European-style architecture, the University of Sydney, and St. Mary’s Cathedral, to the historic Rocks district, I was finally able to witness the soft, creamy tones of sunlight /shadow on the buildings — an experience that inspired new breakthroughs in my color expression.Taking the ferry to Manly Beach and Bondi Beach allowed me to admire and capture two of the world’s most iconic shorelines. At Blue Mountains National Park, the vast scenery and the bluish haze drifting through the air left me in awe and gratitude for this journey. The joy of travel sketching is something I’m truly grateful for — and I’m delighted to share it with you.
